Dear Brophy Moms:
Our theme for the Mothers’ Guild this year is “Grow Where You’ve Been Planted!” I wanted to give you some background on why this theme was chosen. One of the 5 Grad and Grad qualities at Brophy is “Open to Growth.” We hope that we too as parents of our students will demonstrate a willingness to stretch our talents and try new and different things and then use those talents to give back to our Guild, our boys and their school. Each month, I am amazed at how much we as parents model that Open to Growth principle for our sons by engaging in one of the over 35 Mothers’ Guild committees, attending our meetings, and donating our time and talent in countless ways.
Please take a moment to read the “Thank You for Growing Where You’ve Been Planted” section of the newsletter to see the many activities that we engaged in this past month. You truly have each made a difference as we shared a day of fashion and lunch at our Fashion Show, spent a spiritual time together at our Mothers’ Guild Retreat, read books together, hiked together, took care of our Chapel, prayed together in our Prayer Group, made breakfast for our faculty and staff, baked countless cookies, attended either our day or evening meeting, and came together for lunch just for fun.
Our next day meeting is November 6 at 11:30 a.m. in the Great Hall. Our program will be a presentation by our Counseling Department as we learn how we can plant the seeds for the college admission process from Freshman year through Senior Year. Please check the calendar and the weekly e-news for other activities. I hope to see you at one of our November events.
Sincerely,
Marlene Pontrelli Maerowitz

Thank you for Growing Where You’ve Been Planted
This section is dedicated to all those who helped made our October events so successful. Although not intentional, with over 100 volunteers this month and over 1,000 hours of volunteer time each month, we know we have missed identifying many of you by name. Know that we are thankful for all that you do for our boys, our Guild, and the school.
A special thank you to our fabulous co-chairs of the Fashion Show, Stacy Hornacek and Ann Wolf and their committee. What a wonderful day of fashion, lunch, and fun and all for a good cause!

8th Grade Information Socials
Thank you to all of the families that assisted with the 8th Grade Information Socials this fall. There were eight socials and we spread the good news about Brophy to over 400 prospective students and parents! Special thanks to these families for hosting: Terry and Tim Smith, Robin and Richard Milne, Paul and Chris Letter, Ellen and Bob Uhl, Patti and Paul Oleson, Gloria and Pat Jewett, Bibi and Daniel Abrate, and Liz and Martin Mathers. And our evenings would not have been complete without all of the goodies and water bottles donated by over 40 parents. And finally, thanks to the parents who provided us with school directories and stuffing the 1,600 invitations. Thank you everyone! Co-Chairs Theresa Keeley, Gloria Jewett, and Shelly Scheuring.
Annual Christmas Dinner Dance
The Joy of Christmas is quickly approaching and so is the annual Faculty-Staff/Parent Christmas Dinner Dance! Everyone should have received an invitation in the mail by now and hopefully is making plans to attend this festive and fun evening on Saturday, Dec. 6th, 2008. Harper Great Hall will be decked out, dinner will be provided by Main Course (formerly Michael's), dancing and entertainment by Chuck E. Baby and the All Stars, and a no host bar. We encourage parents to host our wonderful faculty and staff at this event. Please note that this evening is also the annual APS Light Parade and so access to campus will be limited. A map with detailed arrival instructions will be emailed to all guests. All reservations questions can be directed to the Reservations Chair, Jennifer Donley at j.donley@cox.net. If you have general questions or if you want to assist on one of the committees, contact co-chairs Shelly Scheuring at mmscheuring@qwest.net or Beth Mittelstaedt at bmittels@aol.com. Come celebrate the joy of the season!
